CONSIDER OTHERS

March 3, 2025

Is that so difficult to do–consider others? There will be as many answers as there are people, and answers might change depending on the situation. But God’s Word tells us, “Don’t be selfish, don’t try to impress others. be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3 NLT. We have examples in Scripture, history, and you see it lived out in the people you connect with every day.

If you read, “Snow Drop’s First Kick,” in my book, “Family Stories for God’s Glory,” you will find three excellent examples of considering others. Two are biblical characters, and one is a present-day example from my grandson-in-law,

Abram and his nephew, Lot, had large flocks of animals. The land could not support them both. Abram, considering Lot, allowed him to make the first choice of the land, and he would take what was left. Lot looked around, not considering Abram. He chose the most fertile, well-watered, land for himself.

Much later, in biblical history, we have the story of David and Jonathan. Jonathan, the king’s son, was the rightful heir to the throne. Jonathan loved David and wanted him to be king instead of himself and was instrumental in making that happen. He considered David a better king than himself and humbly gave him that privileged position.

My grandson-in-law is my last, and present-day example. Trevor and Carly were excitedly expecting their first baby. Not yet born, she had already wrapped her little self around their hearts. Much of their thoughts were on this tiny miracle. Trevor had a strong desire to feel little Snowdrop’s first kick. That desire was not fulfilled. Carly had come to visit; Trevor stayed at home. As I laid my hand on Carly’s extended belly, I felt a definite little kick! Carly was excited for me, but considering Trevor she wondered how he would feel when he discovered he was not the first to feel the kick. The next day, after a phone conversation with Trevor, Carly said he was fine, even happy that I had that pleasure. What a joy it is to be considered!

Look for an opportunity to consider someone today.
